How to Pose:
I often say to my clients, "it’s all about listening." Imagine the camera is a good friend or you’re in a meeting with an important boss or perhaps your giving a keynote speech on a positive subject. Maybe it’s a lunch meeting with a dear friend and you are listening intently to their latest news. I will guide you throughout the session on how to arrange yourself physically, but always have a few tricks up my sleeve to relax the nerves. Most importantly - come to have fun - this isn’t the dentist!
Your Wardrobe:
Bring your wardrobe choices that are new, pressed and preferably with layers - these work well on camera: business/sports jacket with a blouse or button-down for a simple corporate look.
Color Guide:
Navy or jewel tones for light skin tones and Browns and Beige for darker skin tones. Yellow and bright colors look great on young kids and for dark skin. Grey suits look good for corporate looks, but be careful it doesn’t have a herringbone or fine check pattern as this can strobe on camera.
Men: Your classic suit jacket and button-down looks great. Avoid ties - they look a bit too stiff and corporate and the trend these days is to be a little bit more approachable in the corporate setting. Handkerchiefs and a nice watch are pretty decent accessories too. If your business is less formal - then go for a v-neck or t-shirt with a light fitted jacket, or a fitted long sleeve plain colored polo shirt.
Women: There is generally a lot more choice for women, that crosses the formal/informal world - so bring options. Simple shirt and suit jacket, or pantsuits look great. Fitted sweaters or dark turtle necks can work too. Whatever works in the office tends to work for corporate headshots.
Avoid:
White shirts without a jacket or layered item.
Stripes or checkered patterns, herringbone, logos or dots unless layered under a jacket, as these can strobe on the camera.
Make sure clothes are fitted and not too loose or baggy.
Skin Tips:
Try to keep up with hydration leading up to the session.
Eat well, try not to drink alcohol a fews nights before.
Avoid sunbeds/sunbathing for at least 24 hrs before the session.
Most importantly, rest - sleep is your skin’s best friend.
Women - Make Up:
• Less is more.
• Groom brows – use clear mascara if they are unruly.
• Use tinted moisturizer or light foundation and conceal any blemishes – set with a light translucent powder.
• Use a blusher or bronzer subtly
• Keep eyeshadow light and neutral
• Eyeliner should be used carefully – no retro flicks or waterline liner please!
• Mascara – 2 coats max top and bottom and use curlers to open the eyes.
• Keep lips matt and natural toned – lipstick is better than gloss.
